Pair Of Large Empire-style Porcelain Vases—late 19th Century

With an entirely gilded background, richly decorated with radiating palmettes, scrollwork, rosettes, vegetal friezes, and engraved ornaments, featuring an alternation of matte and glossy surfaces

Each vase features, on both sides, a large oval panel framed by a frieze of palmettes and foliage motifs.

On one side, the medallions feature polychrome scenes depicting female figures inspired by antiquity. The figures, clad in draped garments, are depicted in wooded landscapes.
The other side is adorned with a large, lifelike polychrome floral composition. The abundant bouquets combine roses, dahlias, carnations, daisies, pansies, bellflowers, and various small flowers accompanied by foliage, as well as—on one of the vases—grape clusters and fruit.
The handles, entirely gilded, are adorned with foliage in relief and emerge from anthropomorphic appliqués depicting female faces in white bisque, crowned with a large gilded palmette.
Wide gold bands, friezes, and fillets accentuate the rims, bodies, and bases.
