This vase is a remarkable 19th-century piece from the Gibus et Cie (or Pierre-Justin Gibus) factory, located in Limoges
- Factory: Gibus & Cie (Limoges). Pierre-Justin Gibus (1821–1897) partnered with Martial Redon and Alpinien Margaine to run this renowned earthenware and porcelain factory from the mid- to late 19th century. [1]
- Period: Circa 1867 (Napoleon III / Second Empire period).
- Materials & Technique: A typical combination found in Limoges hard-paste porcelain. The body of the vase features a white glazed finish of great purity, while the two handles, sculpted in high relief, are left in porcelain bisque (matte, unglazed porcelain).
- Decoration: The handles depict two cherubs or putti associated with Bacchus (linked to the world of wine and the grape harvest): one holds a cup or a tambourine, while the other raises a bunch of grapes above his head. They rest on consoles adorned with foliage.
- Signature: The letter "G" stamped in relief beneath the base (visible in your second image) corresponds to the manufacturer’s mark of the Gibus company.
- Exhibited at the Paris International Exposition, 1867.

- Pierre-Justin Gibus (1821–1897), in partnership with Alpinien Margaine (1825–1878) and Martial Redon, took over a hard-paste porcelain factory in Limoges in 1853. Gibus was in charge of the technical side, while Margaine, who had trained in the fine arts, designed most of the models. The new company produced tableware and decorative objects, some of which were decorated at other manufacturers, notably Haviland. They exhibited at the 1855 Paris International Exposition, where the whiteness of the porcelain and the beauty of the decorations were praised, and again in 1867, as evidenced by this vase.
