Pair of antique cast-iron advertising displays.Material: Cast iron, heavy and sturdy, covered with its original dark or gray patina. Design: Square base adorned with raised motifs (godrons or fluting) resting on small feet, topped by a turned central shaft and a flat circular dish. Original function: These stands were originally used as counter or display case advertising stands for brands of wax or cleaning products. They were designed to showcase a product box at eye level. Condition: no cracks and a uniform, aged patina; traces of paint oxidation The presence of the embossed letters “R M” indicates the trademark or foundry that produced these stands. Although several foundries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries produced this standard model for retail use, the R M (sometimes associated with productions from the Rousseau & Masure foundry or regional mechanical foundries) confirms the authenticity of the period cast iron. The height of 34 cm corresponds to a sought-after intermediate size: it is ideal for use as large table candlesticks, heavy bookends, or decorative stands. The fact that this is a pair of identical pieces, each bearing an embossed signature, increases their appeal to collectors of “traditional crafts” and industrial objects.
