Polychrome Wooden Carousel Horse
Manufacturing Details and Characteristics
- Structure: The body is made of carved, hollow wood, a traditional technique that lightens the weight of carousel figures while preventing the wood from splitting too deeply due to changes in climate.
- Finish and Ornaments: It retains its original polychrome finish or an antique patina from previous use, featuring shades of red, blue, and cream. The mane is carved from a single block with lovely waves, while the tail is trimmed with real horsehair. The eyes are made of sulfide (glass), which gives the gaze great expressiveness.
- Condition: The object has a lovely vintage look, “as-is.” There are visible cracks from use (particularly around the neck and at the base of the legs), areas where paint is missing, and traces of previous restorations (visible at the joints of the upper limbs), which are entirely normal and sought after as they attest to its authenticity as a fairground piece.
