Set Of Eight Figures And Reliefs In Polychrome Wax – Austria, 19th Century
A beautiful, cohesive set of eight figures and decorative plaques in polychrome wax, some in high relief, depicting figures in historical costumes, musicians, a horseman, and decorative compositions.
The figures are cast, then finely refined and hand-painted with an original polychrome palette dominated by red, green, brown, and gold. Several pieces feature a small ring on the back, allowing them to be displayed suspended.
Probably produced in Austria or the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in the tradition of decorative polychrome wax objects, circa 1850–1880.
A particularly decorative and rare set, preserved in its original condition with a few small chips and some wear on the wax.
