Legion Of Honor Breast Star, Second Empire
A rare and beautiful silver Grand Cross breast star of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honor, featuring an eight-pointed star alternating with palmette-shaped rays. The arms are finely chiseled and adorned with a faceted diamond-point design.
The central medallion bears the imperial eagle with outstretched wings, surrounded by the motto “HONOR AND COUNTRY,” with a star and laurel branches at the bottom.
The reverse features a clasp system with a swing pin and side hooks. The pin’s attachment ring bears the French hallmark of a boar’s head.
Period: Second Empire, 1852–1870.

A superb example of French phaleristics, characteristic of the plaques awarded to dignitaries of the Legion of Honor under Napoleon III.
