Ceruse Plaster Frame - XIXᵉ Century, Circa 1880 - High Relief, Brass Hooping
Cerused plaster frame - XIXᵉ century, circa 1880 - High relief, brass hooping
French decorative art of the Napoleon III period
Small frame in collector's size, in cerused plaster / patinated stucco, French work circa 1880, featuring a finely modeled high relief in original brass hooping.
The scene depicts a neoclassical allegorical group, treated in high relief with supple, expressive modeling.
In the center, a draped female figure, seated or slightly reclined, adopts a protective posture. Around her, several children or putti crowd around, some standing, others curled up against her, in a very harmonious circular composition.
The attitudes are varied: one child raises his arm towards her, another leans against her leg, a third seems to be playing or holding out an object.
The whole evokes an allegory of maternal tenderness and abundance typical of late XIXᵉ century decorative productions.
On the reverse, a hanging ring allows for immediate wall display.
The relief, with its beautiful depth, highlights a decorative scene typical of the late XIXᵉ century, treated with precise modeling and a soft patina emphasizing the volumes.
