Large, Rare Moustiers Earthenware Flower Vase, 18th Century
Large and rare Moustiers earthenware flower vase, 18th century—circa 1740–1770
Dimensions: 35 cm long, 18 cm deep, 13 cm high.
Earthenware with a slightly ivory-toned white glaze, featuring a polychrome painted decoration of rural scenes including a figure, trees, and vegetation. Painted with traditional oxides from the Moustiers workshops, applied in fine outlines and colored highlights. The upper section is perforated with circular holes intended for use as a flower vase. The molded body features scrollwork and floral elements in relief, accented with greens, yellows, and manganese—characteristic of 18th-century Moustiers production.
The structure rests on four molded feet, integrated into the decoration.
Condition: the piece is in perfect condition, with no cracks, restoration, missing parts, or touch-ups to the enamel. Even patina. Signature present on the base, consistent with Moustiers workshop marks.
A collector’s piece that meets all the criteria sought after by Moustiers enthusiasts: large size, figurative decoration, vivid polychromy, intact openwork, and perfectly preserved reliefs. The presence of a workshop signature and the complete absence of restoration make this a particularly desirable piece, rarely found on the market. An authentic 18th-century flower vase, ready to join a discerning collection.
