"Large Earthenware Vase With Stucco Decoration, Italy, Late 18th Century"
This monumental earthenware vase decorated with mounted stucco is undoubtedly unique. In a way, it embodies an "arte povera" solution that aims to achieve a similar effect by replacing a valuable material with a less valuable one. The plant-shaped stucco that serves as the base and leaf-shaped handles replaces the classic mounted bronze. Originally, the stucco on this vase was gilded, thus producing the effect of a classic mounted bronze. Despite the delicate and fragile mount, the vase is very well preserved. HD photos are available.
