Two cameos modeled after ancient stones, made of red wax, encased in their original gold-leaf paper, and numbered. These impressions of cameos or intaglios from the Roman era were affixed to small boxes; a sheet inside each box listed the description and origin of each piece. Hence the numbering.
The erotic subject matter of each of these cameos was not considered offensive in Roman times and symbolized fertility.
