Drawing In Black Chalk And Stump: Marcus Turcius Throwing Himself Into The Abyss To Save Rome.
Large drawing in black chalk and stump, depicting Marcus Curtius clad in armor, throwing himself into the chasm with his horse to save Rome. An important subject in Roman mythology, in which a young soldier sacrifices himself to save Rome. A very beautiful composition, with the cape billowing in the wind, Marcus Curtius trying to maintain his balance on his panicked horse. Very beautiful contrasting movements between the horse and the soldier. Black chalk with some highlights in white gouache, gray stump in the sky, and black for the edge of the chasm. Minor historical restorations on the left edge and upper right corner.
