Antique-style Vase From The Empire Period, Attributed To Claude Galle, Circa 1800–1810.
Artist: Claude Galle (1759-1815)
A beautiful amphora-shaped vase made of chiseled bronze, gilded with mercury, and patinated bronze. The neck features waterleaf motifs and is adorned with two handles with fleurons. They are attached to the body of the vase by a bust of a figure wearing an ancient-style helmet, the whole resting on a square pedestal base. A work in the neoclassical style typical of the early Empire period and characteristic of the bronze artist Claude Galle, supplier to the Imperial Palaces. (Small chip; see last photo)
