Pair Of Empire-style Candelabras.
Artist: Claude Galle (1759-1815)
Pair of candelabra in chiseled bronze, gilded with mercury and patinated bronze. They feature three swan-neck lamp arms decorated with acanthus and volute motifs. A central shaft rises to form a cloud-adorned finial, surmounted by a snuffer shaped like an eagle with outstretched wings clutching a sphere with rays (a symbol of Jupiter).
The bouquet is held by a vestal virgin draped in the classical style, standing on a truncated conical pedestal adorned on the front with two winged griffins facing each other and plant motifs. The entire piece rests on a square-section plinth with godrons and leaves.
