Early 17th Century Painted Walnut Chest
Refined chest made of solid walnut, finely carved and
painted in lean tempera. The chest features a rectangular shape with a molded
base and a frieze decorated with carved dentils beneath the top. Its rich
aesthetic appeal derives from the painted decoration on the sides and front, evoking
stone masonry, while a carved fountain mask adorns the center of the front
panel. The piece retains its original lost-wax cast bronze locks, which open to
reveal an interior featuring a small internal compartment. This is a chest of
great taste and sophistication, capable of adding a touch of class and antique
charm to any setting. Typical Florentine craftsmanship from the early 17th
century.
