Gilded Bronze Cartel After Nicolas Le Sueur And Henri-camille De Beringhen
Important wall-mounted cartouche (or alcove cartouche) in finely chiseled and gilded bronze, executed after the famous model designed around 1728 by the Marquis Henri-Camille de Beringhen (First Squire to the King) and sculpted and cast by master founder Nicolas Le Sueur.
Upper Section: The top of the composition is crowned by a female allegory (representing the daughter of Chronos or the Dawn / Noon), draped and seated upon billowing clouds.
Case and Dial: Circular white enamel dial displaying the hours in Roman numerals (I–XII) and the minutes in Arabic numerals (5 to 60). Hands made of cut and chiseled bronze. The frame is bordered by a large asymmetrical volute with channels and rocaille godrons.
Lower Section: The base is adorned with clouds sculpted in high relief, a latticework grille with openwork cross-hatch patterns beneath the dial, as well as two figures of cherubs/putti in chiseled bronze set amid the interlacing patterns.
Superb condition, original gilding.
