Pair Of Large French Neoclassical Vases In Polychrome And Gilded Porcelain – France

An important pair of French porcelain vases, dating to the first half of the 19th century, between the Restoration period and the early Louis-Philippe era, still fully in keeping with the Neoclassical style. The vases feature an elegant amphora shape with a tall, flared neck and a circular foot. The bodies are characterized by a refined, nuanced reddish-brown hue with a warm, velvety appearance, contrasting with the deep blue of the necks and bases, which are embellished with rich gold decorations. On the front of each vase is a finely painted, polychrome allegorical female figure set within an elaborate gold-ornamented medallion. The two personifications are identified by the inscriptions “INDUSTRIE” and “LITTÉRATURE,” representing Industry and Literature, respectively. The reverse is decorated with gilded symbolic attributes and plant motifs, while the necks feature elegant floral ornamentation in gold. A pair of remarkable quality and decorative impact, reflecting the refined French neoclassical taste of the first half of the 19th century.
