Elegant oval snuffbox in yellow gold, weighing 156 grams, finely engraved and chased on all surfaces. The lid features a radiating guilloché pattern centered by a painted portrait of an 18th-century gentleman, framed by a border of rose-cut diamonds. The underside and sides are adorned with richly detailed Rococo scrolls and ornamental motifs, executed with exceptional craftsmanship.
Inside the rim are the official Parisian gold hallmarks: the scallop shell (charge mark, used between 1756 and 1762), the discharge mark with a stylized head, and a master goldsmith’s mark.
An outstanding example of Louis XV period goldsmithing, likely commissioned by a member of the French aristocracy, combining refinement, technical excellence, and prestige.
