Tortoiseshell
Rare rectangular snuffbox in tortoise shell covered with a very attractive miniature in glass mount, depicting "La Place Royale" in Paris, today's Place de la Concorde.
Attributed to Jean-François Lebelle (active 1806-after 1831), a great miniaturist of the early 19th century, who often depicted large architectural ensembles, such as the Palais des Tuileries and its gardens, the Palais du Luxembourg and its gardens, the Place Royale, but also numerous church interiors. His miniatures are of the highest quality, finely detailed, and very often embellished with numerous figures, giving them incredible life.
The set is in excellent condition, with its fine gilded bronze frame and original glass, to note: very slight peeling of the paint under the glass, but not serious, no chip to the flake, no lack, no crack.
Very beautiful Tabatière and rare in this condition.
For discerning collectors!
