An elegant elongated oval snuffbox, crafted in gold and enamel, bearing French guarantee marks for Paris used between 1798 and 1809. The surface is covered in a translucent pale blue enamel with crimson veining, reminiscent of hardstone patterns. The gold borders are delicately adorned with alternating green enameled leaves and red berries, creating a rich polychrome frame. At the center of the lid, an oval miniature portrait depicts a young couple, framed by colorful enamels and topped with a delicate gilt ribbon. The interior is fully gold-gilt and also marked. A masterpiece of fine goldsmithing, this piece embodies the refinement and luxury of Parisian taste during the Directoire and early Empire periods.
