Napoleon III-style gilded bronze box decorated with putti and attributes of the arts – 19th century

Superb Napoleon III-style box, crafted from finely chiseled gilded bronze and richly decorated with relief motifs.

The lid is adorned with a figurative scene featuring putti, framed by a wide frieze of plant motifs, foliage, and rocaille. The front panel features two putti flanking a large central decoration, with an ornate lock and foliage motifs.

The side panels are also decorated with relief compositions depicting symbols associated with the arts, sciences, and trades, including instruments, gears, and technical elements, lending the piece a particularly original character.

The box rests on four bronze legs decorated with acanthus leaves. The central lock is present. The interior is entirely lined with red/burgundy velvet, providing an elegant contrast to the exterior gilding.

The chiseling and relief work are of fine quality, with antique gilding displaying lovely nuances and a patina resulting from age.

A particularly refined decorative and collectible piece, representative of the historicist and ornamental taste of the Napoleon III / Second Empire period.
