in a manner of OUDRY Léopold Editeur
Léopold Oudry founded his electrochemical company in 1854 at 10, rue Cuissard in Paris. Oudry is known for his vases, statues and small objects which he covered with pure copper deposited by electroplating, a technique already used by the famous goldsmith Christofle since the 1830s. Oudry was commissioned by the city of Paris to use his galvanic plating process to mold objects and monuments for the capital. Oudry, for example, was asked to copper the monumental fountains of the Place de la Concorde in the center of Paris, designed by Jacques Ignace Hittorff in 1840 and which had to be repainted every year. On the strength of this new success, Oudry must open larger premises and will open its doors at10, route de Versailles where it employs 150 workers.
Oudry exhibited at many Universal Exhibitions and won medals in 1855 at the Universal Exhibition in Paris and 1862 in London. The famous Durenne cast iron company bought the Oudry company in the 1880s.
