18th-century Louis XV-style Velvet Theater Costume, Ref. 1187

Mid-20th-century Louis XV-style theatrical costume.

Consists of a jacket (formerly known as an “habit”), a vest (formerly known as a “justaucorps”), and breeches.

The jacket is made of pink and burgundy embossed velvet, decorated with stripes and flowers on a greige background, and fastens with eight large buttons. It has flap pockets, and the sleeves feature cuffs and buttons.

The waistcoat, fastened with 14 buttons, is made of pink silk and is adorned with a gold-threaded braid running from the collar to the waist.

The pink fabric breeches are fastened at the knee with a button adorned with pink mother-of-pearl.

Period: 20th century, circa 1960–1970.

Condition: shows signs of wear; the vest is stained, as is the bottom of the breeches (this costume is of good quality).
