I am offering these two rare watercolors by Élie Pavil, depicting views of Avignon and the Rhône; one is signed at the bottom right and the other at the bottom left. The image sizes are 14 x 23 cm and 14.5 x 24 cm, while the framed dimensions are 15.5 x 25 cm and 16 x 25.5 cm. Both are in excellent original condition and housed in their period gold frames; one frame is in good condition, while the other has been trimmed at the edges. Authenticity guaranteed. I am offering them at €220 each or €390 for the pair. These are indeed rare watercolors by Élie Pavil depicting views of Avignon, as his watercolors are relatively uncommon on the art market compared to his oil paintings. They are of magnificent quality, demonstrating a mastery worthy of the great painter he was. Élie Anatole Pavil was a Post-Impressionist painter of Ukrainian origin who became a naturalized French citizen in 1911. He settled in Paris and spent the final years of his life in Morocco. Born Ilya Anatolevich Pavill on May 25, 1873, in Odessa, Crimea, he moved to Paris with his family at the age of 18. A graduate of the Académie Julian, he exhibited *Le Pont Royal* (painting no. 1469) at the Salon des Peintres de Paris as early as 1904 and exhibited there again in 1906. He became a naturalized French citizen in 1911, thanks to the support of the painter Édouard Detaille and Inspector General Petit. He spent time in Arcachon in 1912 and in Brittany in 1915 and 1916. He returned to Arcachon during the summers of 1919 and 1922, as well as in 1925; during that 1925 visit, he painted *En attendant le retour des pêcheurs* (Waiting for the Fishermen's Return), a work later dated by his daughter Lina at the time of the sale conducted by Maître Robert to mark the centenary of his birth. In 1930, he moved to Morocco to live with his daughter, continuing to paint in the souks and the port of Rabat until his death there on January 1, 1944. He is buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery alongside his son, the composer Edouard Alexandre Pavil (1910–1966). By a decree dated August 20, 1931, he was appointed a Knight of the Legion of Honour by the Ministry of Fine Arts. His daughter, Lina Pavil, exhibited alongside him at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1933, showing the painting *Sur un vieux fauteuil. Fleurs* (On an Old Armchair. Flowers). At the Salon d'Automne held from October 18 to November 25, 1905, he exhibited *Le Soir dans la taverne* (Evening in the Tavern), catalogued as number 1205. From March 1, 1905, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français.
