Fernand Maillaud (1863-1948) The Champs Elysées In Issoudun. Crozant School, Berry, Creuse Street

Artist: Fernand Maillaud (1863-1948)
New work by Fernand Maillaud this time an oil on cardboard signed lower left + countersigned and located on the back of the painter's hand "The Champs Elysées in Issoudun in the evening on November 11" Format of the painting alone without frame 22x27cm. This is therefore a new post-impressionist composition by Fernand Maillaud who paints here a very emblematic subject of the painter by its place, Issoudun in his native Berry + a rustic scene, here a horse in front of a shop in the famous avenue of Issoudun renamed the Champs Elysées. The shop may be the tobacco shop of Issoudun because chance has it that I am offering another painting by Maillaud, much larger, which represents an almost identical subject where we see marked on the store "tobacco shop". Maillaud's touch is very characteristic here with small commas, just like his palette of great subtlety where ochres rub shoulders with grays, white, pink, blue, brown, green.... Beautiful and typical Maillaud, the kind of painting that made his fame. I no longer present Fernand Maillaud, excellent "reference" painter of the Crozant school, with his views of the banks of the Creuse, but also and especially those of his native country Berry. His fame is no longer to be made, even across the Atlantic where he had enormous success during his lifetime and still today. Maillaud achieved fame thanks to his rustic scenes of the peasant world, but also with his famous market scenes; but he was also recognized for his orientalist scenes, his views of Venice or Paris at his beginnings, some of which are preserved at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris. He was also close to the famous poet Maurice Rollinat whom he sketched several times. His attachment to his native Berry and to the Creuse earned him a place among the best painters of the Crozant school alongside Detroy, Guillaumin and Alluaud. It was believed that his popularity was declining, yet his paintings have still sold very well very recently with peaks of over €3,500. So an emblematic painter of the Crozant school, but also of the Provençal school, also renowned for his orientalist scenes, his portraits and finally his tapestries and even his sculpted furniture. Several works exist on this artist. Painting in perfect condition, delivered in a beautiful old gilded frame. Work guaranteed authentic
