Sculpture Of St. John The Baptist By Prof. Eugenio Pattarino, Florence

An exquisite polychrome terracotta sculpture of sacred art, with rich highlights in pure gold, depicting St. John the Baptist. The work is signed in full on the back in pure gold as “Prof. E. Pattarino” and bears the catalog number and model L-18, guaranteeing its absolute authenticity.
Excellent condition. The polychrome colors are vivid, and the gilding is perfectly preserved.
The sculpture displays the unmistakable stylistic mark of the Florentine master: the ascetic and austere appearance of the saint, draped in the classic camel-skin cloak and golden drapery.
In his right hand, he holds the conch shell, a symbol of baptism, while in his left hand he clutches the processional cross wrapped in a scroll.
Professor Eugenio Pattarino (Florence, 1885–1971) was one of the most celebrated and influential Italian ceramic artists and sculptors of the 20th century. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence under Giovanni Fattori, he perfected his art in Venice and Paris.
In his renowned Florentine studio, Pattarino produced a vast body of work of the highest quality, characterized by a masterful use of majolica terracotta, glazes, and the application of fine gold using the “third-firing” technique.
His religious subjects, particularly the Madonnas and saints, have made him famous throughout the world: his sculptures are now on display in major international museums, private collections, and ecclesiastical institutions, including the Vatican.
