Elegant Tabletop Crucifix Made Of Malachite And Silver
Roman Craftsmanship, First Half of the 19th Century This splendid piece of sacred art is a triumph of fine Roman craftsmanship from the first half of the 19th century. The cross features magnificent and vivid malachite inlay, whose concentric veins create a mesmerizing chromatic contrast with the metal elements. The body of Jesus Christ, finely chiseled, is crafted from silver, as are the openwork crossbars and the glorifying halo behind his head. At Christ’s feet lies the traditional symbol of the skull and crossbones. The piece rests on an elegant, molded base made of ebony-stained wood, which in turn is supported by a square plinth of black marble. A collector’s item of great charm and superb craftsmanship.
