Terracotta Statuette, “to The Boat !”, Hylorin & Cie, Circa 1900
A terracotta statuette titled “A la barque!” (“To the boat!”), depicting a peasant woman and created by Hylorin & Cie around 1900. The female figure is standing, though her back is slightly stooped. Her left hand rests on her hip, while her right hand is tucked into her pocket. The peasant woman is calling out the phrase inscribed on the front of the base: “a la barque!” The signature “L. Des Cordes” appears on the back.
