Antique Devotional Painting "madonna Del Parto" - Tempera On Paper
A fine and refined devotional painting from the second half of the 19th century, executed in tempera on paper
The composition is set within a neoclassical architectural aedicule, embellished with pilasters and a conch-shaped niche that frames the Virgin enthroned with the blessing Infant Jesus. The work is rich in solemn cartouches and Latin inscriptions drawn from the Marian dogmatic tradition.
In the upper frieze: “VIRGO TVA GLORIA PARTVS” (Virgin, childbirth is your glory).
In the lower base: “VIRGO ANTE PARTVM, VIRGO IN PARTV, VIRGO POST PARTVM. ORA PRO NOBIS” (Virgin before, during, and after childbirth. Pray for us).
The painting is embellished with a magnificent contemporary frame in molded wood gilded in Mecca style.
