Antique Painting Portrait Of Mary Magdalene Oil On Hardboard '700 Original
A female portrait painted in oil on panel, inspired by a work by Antoon Van Dyck (1599–1641) sold at auction in Vienna in 2020. The image likely depicts Mary Magdalene, a figure often portrayed by Van Dyck with her gaze turned toward the sky and her hair loose. In this painting, the face appears mirror-reversed compared to the original. The work underwent scientific microscopic analysis of the pigments and the wooden support, which dates it to the late 18th century (report attached). The expressive intensity and skillful use of color and light effects are reminiscent of Van Dyck’s typical style, suggesting that the work was created by one of his followers. The work is presented in a frame dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
