Large Triptych Travel Icon Of Christ, Mary, And St. John, Enameled Bronze, Russia, 18th Century
A very large and beautiful Russian travel triptych made of bronze with blue and white enamel, dating from the second half of the 18th century.
Old Believers school.
It consists of three panels that allow it to be folded up and easily taken along on a journey.
This type of iconographic subject is called the Deesis or Intercession. In the center is Christ the "Almighty," flanked on the left by the Virgin Mary and on the right by Saint John the Baptist. Mary and Saint John, with their heads bowed in prayer, both intercede with Christ to save humanity.
In very good overall condition with a superb patina, and the figures have retained all their details. A few small chips in the enamel.
