Radassier Provençal Set With Matching Armchair, Circa 1850

A charming set of regional-style furniture comprising a armchair and a radassier (two-seater sofa or "double chair"), characteristic of 19th-century Provençal artisanal woodworking. The openwork backs, known as “wave-shaped” or “gendarme’s hat,” feature three elegant horizontal crossbars—molded and scroll-cut—connected by central posts topped with small plumes or spinning-top-shaped olive motifs. The sinuous arms rest on whip-shaped consoles.
The base is typical of the Louis XV–Transition style, formed at the front by curved legs with spindle-turned bulges, connected by beautiful molded crossbars punctuated with geometric motifs and connecting blocks.
The frames feature a very beautiful original cream-colored patina accented with a pastel blue/aqua green trim, gently highlighting the moldings.
The seat retains its traditional rye straw matting, which is in excellent condition in terms of firmness and preservation.
This set is sold complete with its seat cushions and padded armrest cushions, custom-made from white/ivory fabric accented with buttons and light blue piping that perfectly complements the wood’s patina.
