Book On The Revolutionary Period: List Of Members Of The National Assembly, 1791

A rare and valuable historical booklet in in-12 format, published in Paris in 1791 by the Imprimerie Nationale.
This official document serves as a firsthand account of the major upheavals of the French Revolution.
The full title on the title page reads: “List of the Deputies to the National Assembly and their Alternates; followed by a list of all the Committees established by Decrees of the National Assembly, and an alphabetical index”.
The title page is adorned with the official engraved vignette of the Imprimerie Nationale, featuring the revolutionary and ephemeral royal mottos of the Constitutional Monarchy: “The Law and the King”, surrounded by the inscription “National Assembly - 1789”. In addition to the roll call of deputies, this copy includes the valuable List of Committees of the National Assembly (beginning on page 115). This section documents the nascent organization of the modern state, notably the Archives Committee led by the famous Armand-Gaston Camus, housed in the former Capuchin convent of Saint-Honoré in Paris. It also lists the names of all the commissioners-inspectors and secretaries-clerks serving in 1791.
The historical significance of this volume culminates on page 196 with the “List of Presidents and Secretaries of the National Assembly, from its inception”. This section brings together the most illustrious names of 1789 and the early days of the Revolution: Bailly (dean), the Marquis de La Fayette (vice president), Louis-Philippe-Joseph d’Orléans (the future Philippe Égalité), the Abbé Sieyès, the Abbé Grégoire, and Le Chapelier. This is a first-rate genealogical and historical source, offering a refreshing read and accurately summarizing the birth of the First Assembly in French history.

• Condition: Very fine overall condition for a document of this era. Binding is sound; head and foot caps and clamps are sturdy. Some very slight signs of wear on the spine decorations. Interior is clean.
