The Assassination Of The Duke Of Berri By Louvel
A rare and valuable historical work published “hot off the press” in the very year of the tragedy: “An Event That Occurred on the Night of February 13–14, or The Assassination of His Royal Highness the Duke of Berri”. This is the Second Edition, published in Paris by Lécrivain, Bookseller (Boulevard des Capucines) in 1820. This anonymous work is one of the most comprehensive accounts of the time regarding this major political assassination during the Restoration. It includes a historical account of the Prince, a biography of his murderer Louis Pierre Louvel, the interrogations, a description of the funeral ceremonies, as well as numerous official documents and records. The major highlight of this copy:
It retains its superb, large fold-out frontispiece, engraved and hand-colored at the time. Titled "Assassination Attempt on His Royal Highness the Duke of Berri as He Left the Opera on February 13, 1820, at Ten Minutes to Eleven", it strikingly illustrates the scene of the crime with the carriage, the horses, and the figures in period costumes.
In-16 format, 214 pages
