Louis XV-era Ottoman Sofa, Formerly From The Karl Lagerfeld Collection At Château Penhoët
Artist: Inconnu
Just this once, today I’d like to show you a piece of furniture from my personal collection.
This superb wicker ottoman-style sofa was purchased in the early 2000s from the former caretaker of the Château de Penhoët in Grandchamp (56); This sofa had been purchased by Karl Lagerfeld (1933–2019) for the château, where he had settled his mother, Elysabeth Bahlmann.
Karl Lagerfeld restored this château and its gardens at great expense, an effort honored by a visit from the Queen Mother of England in 1990.
After more than 20 years of service in our home, I am now offering it for sale. The woodwork is sound, the wood retains its original lacquer finish, the silk upholstery is of high quality, the padding is in very good condition, and the seat cushion is, of course, filled with feathers.
No visible stamp.
Please note that one front leg is damaged and there is a tear in the silk on the front (last photo).
Delivery available; cost to be determined.
Dimensions:
Backrest height: 104 cm
Seat height: approximately 50 cm
Length: 198 cm.
Total depth: 76 cm
Seat depth: 65 cm.
Seat length: approximately 170 cm.
