Master's Chest Of Drawers, Restored, Made Of Mahogany And Black Marble – 19th Century

A beautiful Louis-Philippe-era master’s chest of drawers, dating from the 19th century, crafted from mahogany veneer.

The front features three drawers, each fitted with two brass knobs. The drawer fronts are finished with an elegant mahogany veneer arranged in a mirror pattern, which beautifully highlights the wood’s grain.

The quality of craftsmanship is remarkable for a piece of this size: the three drawers are joined with dovetail joints, using traditional techniques employed for full-scale furniture. The frame, drawer runners, and back panels also attest to true cabinetmaking craftsmanship.

The sides are veneered with mahogany, and the chest rests on a straight baseboard that tapers to small feet.

It is topped by a slightly overhanging black marble slab.

An interesting 19th-century master craftsman’s piece, appealing as much for its proportions as for the quality of its craftsmanship.

In good overall condition, with some signs of wear and tear consistent with its age.
