Bronze Sculpture “le Petit Amour Assis,” After Bouchardon – Early 20th Century
This small bronze figure of “Amour,” with its delicate patina, stands on its polished wooden base like an apparition straight out of an 18th-century workshop: the childlike figure, with finely modeled curls, displays gentle and lively gestures; the raised arm seems to hold back an inner impulse, while the other arm, resting, rises with it. The body, rendered with controlled roundness, expresses the tender grace characteristic of Rococo putti, and the light drapery surrounding the hips emphasizes the purity of the forms without ever constraining them. The posture, both dynamic and restrained, evokes the compositions of Edme Bouchardon, whose art skillfully united the truth of movement with ideal elegance. Set upon its pedestal with its warm curves, the sculpture exudes an intimate, almost confidential presence, as if the bronze child were guarding the secret of a gesture cut short, suspended in time.
