Object description :

"Mahogany Cylinder Desk, Restoration Period – Part 1 Of The 19th Century"
This Restoration period cylinder desk with step is made of solid mahogany and Cuban mahogany veneer. It opens at the top with a step composed of three drawers, all lockable and mounted with dovetails, testifying to careful cabinetmaking. Beneath this step, a cylinder, also lockable, conceals a spacious interior. This space is arranged with a central niche and three small drawers on the front, veneered and decorated with lemon tree fillets. The knobs of these drawers are finely carved in bone, adding a precious touch to the whole. Just below, a retractable shelf covered in a remade green leather unfolds. This leather is decorated with gilded friezes and a central motif, while the edge of the shelf is molded and grooved. The sides of the desk are also equipped with shelves covered in the same green leather, providing additional work surfaces. In the lower part, the desk opens onto four drawers, each with its own lock. The double drawer on the right acts as a cash drawer: it contains a removable tray divided into four compartments and conceals a second lock allowing access to a secret compartment at the bottom. Finally, the whole rests on four sculpted legs, decorated with seven sharp-edged grooves, molded and finished in balls, giving this piece of furniture a classic elegance and great stability. ***********Period: 1st part of the 19th centuryPerfect condition after restoration in our workshop.Waxed finish.Delivery on quotation in France and internationallyDimensions:Height: 120 cmWidth: 125 cmDepth: 62 cmReference: 030725
