Crater Vase Known As The "sôsibios," Named After The Ancient Figure; Bronze; Grand Tour; 19th Century

Artist: D'après L'antique
A very beautiful antique reproduction based on the ancient marble krater known as the "Sôsibios Krater," dating from the 1st century BC, discovered in Rome and currently on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
This beautiful vase is typical of late Hellenistic-period works intended to decorate the homes of wealthy Romans.
Set on a circular foot decorated with ovals and a body that is initially fluted, the main decoration consists of a large, lively frieze; it depicts two processions converging on an altar lit for the ceremony; among this long procession, one can recognize the gods Hermes and Artemis surrounded by numerous dancers and maenads.... The tall side handles of the vase are shaped like swan necks.
Our vase is a faithful, high-quality reproduction cast in bronze around the mid-19th century and is presented on a square base of red Verona marble.
A work known as a “Grand Tour” piece, in superb condition and having retained its beautiful original patina.
