"Bronze After The Antique "l'arrotino", Work Of The Grand Tour, Early 19th Century."
Beautiful patinated bronze group, treated after the Antique after the famous marble sculpture "l'Arrotino" / "The Grinder" (itself a Roman copy dating from the 1st century BC of a Greek original and known in Rome from the 16th century). This sculpture is currently exhibited at the Uffizi Museum in Florence. The sculpture presents the Scythian slave busy preparing the blade which will be used in the torture of Marsyas commissioned by the god Apollo. Excellent condition and very beautiful original brown patina; great finesse in the treatment of details. Work of the Grand Tour dating from the beginning of the 19th century.
