Egyptian-style Cantilever Clock In White Marble And Gilded Bronze, Consulate–empire Period

An elegant Consulate-Empire period portico clock, crafted from white Carrara marble and richly adorned with finely chiseled and gilded bronze fittings.

The movement is supported by two Egyptian-style caryatids, depicted as female figures in sheath dresses. These are surmounted by winged griffins framing a gilded bronze floral composition.

Beneath the dial is a delicate openwork drapery, while the rectangular base is adorned with a floral cartouche and a quiver placed at its center. The ensemble presents a particularly balanced architectural composition, characteristic of the “Return from Egypt” style that emerged in France at the turn of the Consulate and the Empire.

The clock features its own mechanical movement with a wire suspension. The movement is in working order and comes with its key as well as a gilded bronze pendulum, adorned with a radiant mask of Apollo.

A decorative piece of fine quality, notable for the elegance of its architecture and the richness of its gilded bronze decoration.

In good overall condition. A few slight marks and stains are visible on the marble, particularly in the lower left section. The clock was found to be in working order at the time this listing was written; as with any antique mechanism, no guarantee of longevity can be given.
