A very elegant bronze greyhound with a brown-black patina, cast from a model by Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810–1879), one of the most important French animal sculptors of the 19th century.
The animal is depicted in an alert and particularly elegant pose, with its head turned, ears pricked, and long tail curled. The great anatomical precision, the taut musculature, the delicately suggested ribs, and the rendering of the legs attest to the high quality of the casting and chiseling.
A very beautiful, deep, and nuanced antique brown-black patina with subtle brown highlights on the reliefs.
The bronze rests on an elegant oval base made of veined green onyx.
