Berber Wool Djellaba Embroidered With Green-and-yellow Floche Silk—tunisia, Circa 1900–1930

Circa 1900–1930
Southern Tunisia

Rare Berber djellaba or djebba made of dyed and embroidered wool, dating from the early 20th century. The base is made of sheep’s wool, handloomed and dyed with indigo and cochineal red to achieve this subtle shade between wine-red and burgundy. Traditional green-and-yellow floche silk embroidery adorns the open collar, shoulders, and sleeve openings, featuring matching tassels. The front panel features beautiful Arab-Andalusian motifs, traditional to Tunisian art. No lining, except for green silk bias tape along the edges of the embroidery. No flaws, aside from a slight patina and a few loose threads in the embroidery. Overall good condition in terms of color and preservation. Guaranteed Pierre Loti spirit!

Dimensions: Large one-size-fits-all, equivalent to a French men’s size 52/54. 120 cm x 120 cm measured flat.
