Design for outbuildings surrounding a large residence on the Gérardière estate, located in Le Cellier on the banks of the Loire (Loire-Atlantique, northeast of Nantes). On this estate, the Château de la Gérardière was built in the very early 19th century by the Guillet de La Brosse family (a family of shipowners from Nantes); later, Maximilien Siffait and his son Oswald developed the Folies-Siffait there between 1816 and 1830—a park consisting of faux ruins and terraced gardens.

François Bougoüin (1846–1933) was an architect from Nantes and the father of architects Joseph and Paul Bougoüin. He was a student of Gustave Bourgerel, Jules Normand, and Émile Vaudremer. He worked in the Nantes region, built churches (in Aigrefeuille-du-Maine and Orvault), and restored historic monuments. He designed some fifty private seaside villas, notably in La Baule-Escoublac and Le Pouliguen.
