A rare wheel-thrown ceramic from the Merovingian period, dating to the 6th–7th centuries, made of dark gray clay.

This vessel is of the keel-shaped pot type, characteristic of Early Medieval pottery. The upper shoulder is adorned with a wheel-marked decoration consisting of several geometric motifs, among which crosses of Christian tradition are clearly distinguishable.

The presence of this Christian-style decoration, combined with the vessel’s form and the period, suggests a funerary origin, as such vessels were often placed with the deceased in their graves. The combination of geometric motifs and crosses makes this piece of particular interest for the study of ceramic production and funerary practices during the Merovingian period.

Condition: generally good for an archaeological artifact of this age, with a crack and a few small chips, visible in the photographs.
