Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich Dietrichy (1712–1774) Portrait Of A Bearded Man (saint Peter)

This old portrait of a bearded man (probably the apostle Peter) dates from the 18th century and, due to its strong stylistic similarities, has been attributed to the famous German landscape and portrait painter Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich Dietrichy (1712, Weimar – 1774, Dresden). For comparison, see other photos of similar works by the same artist from the collection of the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg. The artist traveled to Rome and Venice in 1743; the works presented here date from this period.
