Duvieux was born in 1855 in Paris. He began his artistic studies as a pupil of Marilhat and, after his first Paris Salon in 1880, continued to depict Venice and Constantinople throughout his career. Among his other paintings inspired by Venice are "The Grand Canal in Venice," "Sunset in Venice," and "Panorama with Sailboats and Gondolas in Venice." Among his other paintings of Constantinople is View of Constantinople at Sunset. Duvieux was influenced by the keen interest in Orientalism during the 19th century, but he chose to focus on landscapes and architecture, as well as the effect of varying light on these elements. After his debut at the Salon of 1880, he exhibited Arab Encampment in 1882, which also marked his last participation in that exhibition. His paintings were very popular with the general public, who appreciated this type of imagery, which offered them a souvenir of their travels.
