The classical landscape with travelers among ancient ruins at sunset was executed in the late 18th or early 19th century and, due to its close resemblance to the original and the antique inscription bearing the artist's name on the back of the canvas, has been attributed to the renowned French painter Jean-Louis de Marne (1752–1829).
