Saint Cloud Earthenware Dish, Late 17th Century.
Thisvery large, circular, deep dish is decorated in the center withfloral scrolls, painted in blue on a white background, imitating the designsfound on Chinese porcelain brought back to Europe by the Company of theIndies. On the rim, four floral panels are arranged against alatticework background. A wide blue border runs along the edge of therim, and a frieze of geometric motifs encircles the base of the dish.
Asimilar piece is housed in the Sèvres Museum.
Inexcellent overall condition, it nevertheless has one or two chipsin the enamel around the rim.
