"Views Of The Towns Of Edinburgh And Greenock."
These two engravings enhanced with watercolor were made by John Heaviside Clark 1770-1863. Born in Scotland, he is a famous landscape and marine painter, miniaturist and engraver, he worked in London from 1802 to 1832 and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1812 to 1832. He is known for his engravings of cities Scottish, for its attention to detail and its aesthetic research, trees are often in the foreground as well as some characters that animate its representation, this is the case of the two engravings that we offer, one represents the city of Edinburgh and the other the town of Greenock. These two hand-coloured engravings are part of a set of eighteen views of Scotland, they were engraved in the 1820s to 1830s during the Industrial Revolution. In good general condition, they are nevertheless insolated and one or two rust spots are to be noted. They were framed recently. Frame dimensions 57.5 cm x 75 cm, view 36.5 cm x 54 cm.
