A beautiful original color lithograph by Fred Zeller (1912–2003), a French artist, painter, and engraver.
The work depicts a stylized rural landscape, enlivened in the distance by the silhouettes of two hunters, standing out against the light of the rising sun. A composition with simplified forms and bold colors, characteristic of Zeller’s highly personal artistic style.
Signed in pencil by the artist and numbered 144/150.
Printed on Arches paper.
Fred Zeller was also a prominent figure in the French left. A socialist and later revolutionary activist in his youth, he was initiated into Freemasonry in 1953 and served as Grand Master of the Grand Orient de France from 1971 to 1973.
Dimensions: 75.7 x 56 cm.
Condition: stains present in the white margins of the paper, with no major impact on the composition. These imperfections are factored into the asking price. (see photos). They should be barely noticeable once the work is framed.
